Design for Industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 is seen as the future of manufacturing, in which connected machines and systems use and disseminate data to deliver smart manufacturing.

The nine pillars of Industry 4.0 have been identified as:

  • Big Data
  • Augmented Reality
  • Simulation
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Cloud Computing
  • Cyber Security
  • Systems Integration
  • Additive Manufacturing
  • Autonomous Systems

With our Design for Industry 4.0 capability, we generate sufficient data about the product at the design stage itself, so that when it comes to manufacture, there are no hidden surprises.

Our specific expertise is in the areas of Simulation, Big (relevant) Data, Systems Integration, and Additive Manufacturing.

Simulation

Our simulation expertise works across the entire product development life cycle, including generation of initial concepts, development of detailed design, validation and substantiation of the designs, material selection and manufacturing and assembly sequence to name a few.

We also have the ability to use existing data to determine actual manufacturing times, machine capacity, and project delivery schedules, which help map the entire project not just from a time domain, but from a time-space domain. This helps submit efficient bids, thereby increasing the likelihood of winning a contract, which is paramount for everything else to follow.

Systems Integration

We live in a day and age when systems no longer work in isolation. Any engineered entity is a collection of various systems interacting and working seamlessly. Examples of our work include integration of thermo-mechanical, opto-mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems.

Big (relevant) Data

Big Data is another Industry 4.0 Pillar, where swathes of data is generated by people, processes, machinery and systems. However, the optimum way to use big data is to make it relevant. What we do is not just generate data, but go one step further to add relevance to your context.

Our Big (relevant) Data expertise is an extension of our simulation offering. By using simulation to optimise the development, design, and manufacturing, we help establish a firmer, data driven understanding of asset performance. This helps in deciding planned maintenance activities, decide warranty periods, and also helps schedule arrival of spare parts, alignment of manufacturing to meet demand. We also help customise and personalise products for individual people.
