The design substantiation was carried out for a client of ours, who specialises in heavy haulage and abnormal load logistics. The stipulated payload mass was 60,000kg.

The static strength assessment was carried out using Ansys suite of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.

The design was subjected to a number of accelerations, representing the inertial loads on the truck as it travels along winding roads with changes in gradient also.

This substantiation exercise confirmed that the existing design of this haulage frame would satisfy the stipulated load carrying requirements.

Business Benefits: This design substantiation exercise enhanced confidence in the capability of this design to carry the required load. This virtual proto-typing exercise gave the company the potential to reduce around 3 months of project time.
